Pierce Rec Board announces 2026 meeting dates 

The Pierce County Recreation Board has announced its regular monthly meetings for 2026.

The recreation board will meet on Tuesday, Febru ary 3, March 3, April 7, May 5, June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1, October 6, November 3 and December 1.

All board meetings will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (formerly the NFC Building) on College Avenue in Blackshear.

Diabetes support group meets first Saturdays 

The Talki Foundation’s monthly support group for people in Ware County and surrounding areas with diabetes and their caregivers will hold meetings the first Saturday of every month.

The support group meets 11 a.m. in the Hospital Annex Classroom, 1800 Alice Street, Waycross. Upcoming dates include: February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2 and June 6.

The support group, called 912 Diabetes Initiative support group provides educational resources and a chance to connect with others. Talki Foundation President Charlie Komons facilitates the monthly meeting which is hosted by Memorial Satilla Health.

Red Cross to hold blood drive, Jan 13 

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (SEGARAC, formerly the NFC Building), 705 College Avenue Blackshear.

Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
