City man life-flighted for injuries in 2-vehicle crash

A Waycross man was lifeflighted to a Florida hospital for injuries suffered last week in a two-vehicle accident in southern Ware County, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Corbin Alexander Ray, 19, was flown to UF-Shands in Jacksonville, Fla., following the 4:36 p.m. crash, Monday, December 22. Ray was first taken by Ware County EMS to Memorial Satilla Health for treatment, then transported to UF-Shands for additional care, authorities said.

Ray was driving a 2012 Ford Escape south on Ga. 4 near its intersection with Aycock Road, the report said. Also traveling south was Dillon Bancroft, 25, of Callahan, Fla., in a 2018 Ford F150 pickup.

Citations are pending as a result of the accident, the report said.

The vehicles were traveling side-by-side on the roadway, with Ray in the right lane and Bancroft the left, the report said. A witness to the accident said both drivers had cellphones in hand, the report said.

According to the report, Ray made an abrupt lane change left and struck the pickup in the right front wheel. Ray’s SUV then traveled 181 feet before leaving the roadway onto the median where it rotated counterclockwise approximately 116 feet while rolling over and then back onto the roadway where it came to a final uncontrolled rest on its driver’s side facing southwest.

Bancroft’s pickup came to a controlled stop in the left lane behind Ray’s Escape. Neither Bancroft nor the passengers in either of the vehicles required treatment after the incident, the report said.

Daniel Roberson, 18 of Waycross was in Ray’s vehicle while Dalton Trantham, 24 of Callahan, was riding with Bancroft.

Trooper Chase Middleton investigated the accident.
