City picks up trees with yard debris 

The Waycross Public Works Department will pick up live Christmas trees as part of its regular yard debris service, Director Matt Elwell announced.

Residents should place their old trees at the edge of the street, away from from power poles, power lines, mailboxes, and other obstructions.

Because of the city’s holiday schedule, yard-debris pickup may be delayed by a day or two, Elwell said.

“We’ll get to you as quickly as possible,” he said. “Thanks for your patience.”

WMS group selling engraved bricks 

Commemorative, engraved bricks are being sold by the Waycross Middle School Legacy Brick Fundraiser through January 15 for placement at the new Waycross Middle School upon completion of the new structure sometime next summer.

Tan bricks are available in 4-inch x 8-inch and 8 x 8. Each can be customized with not only text, but also a variety of logos related to the school’s bulldogs mascot.

A 4 x 8 brick with text only is $100 while one with text and one of the seven logos is $110. Costs for an 8 x 8 version are $200 and $210.

For an additional $10, those who get a brick can buy a 4 x 4 leather coaster with the same inscription as on their brick. Anyone buying a brick also can receive an actual brick from the current school when it is razed.

MLK Banquet scheduled Jan. 16

 Love Feeds, Inc., presents the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet at 7 p.m., Friday, January 16 at C.C. McCray City Auditorium, 865 Pendleton Street.

Theme is “Dream. Act. Change.”

Keynote speaker is Kimberlyn Carter, Executive Director of Represent Georgia. The nonpartisan organization is committed to recruiting, training, and developing leaders across the state.

Ware BOE sets meetings in Jan.

The Ware County Board of Education holds its regular monthly meetings Monday-Tuesday, January 12-13, both at 6 p.m. at 1301 Bailey Street.

The Monday meeting will be a work session followed the next day by the business meeting. Both are open to the public.

Crochet classes offered for free

Registration begins January 1 for beginners crochet classes offered free by the Ware County Recreation Department.

First class is 5 p.m., Tuesday, February 24 at 2110 Cecil Brown Drive. Participants are responsible for their own materials.

Diabetes group meets first Sat.

The Talki Foundation’s monthly support group 912 Diabetes Initiative for people with diabetes and their caregivers will holds meetings the first Saturday of each month.

The support group will meet at 11 a.m., in the Memorial Satilla Health Annex Classroom, 1800 Alice Street. Dates for the first half of the year are January 3, February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2 and June 6.

Rec. Dept. holds Sr. Dance Jan. 10

The Ware County Recreation Department stages a Senior Dance from 7 to 10 p.m., Satureay January 10 at the Trembling Earth Complex, 2119 Cecil Brow Drive.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with admission $7. Ther e will be door prizes, light a refreshments, and DJ Fred Hand playing all the oldies. Call (912) 287-4488.

Chamber seeks hosts for events

The Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce is compiling its list of hosts for its Rise ‘n’ Shine and Business After Hours meetings for 2026.

Rise ‘n’ Shine is held at 7:45 a.m. and Business After Hours at 5 p.m., each once every month.

Businesses interested in being a host for one or both of the events in the coming year can email chamber@ waycrosschamber.or g.

Coffee, community meetup Thursdays The Satilla Riverkeeper is sponsoring a coffee and community group meetup at 8 a.m. the second Thursday of every month at Laura S. Walker State Park.

Next meeting is January 8. Grab your favorite beverage and join others for a casual hike through the park. It’s a perfect chance to connect with neighbors, enjoy the outdoors, and get moving with others.
