HICKOX – Glenda “Denise” Johns Rowell, 62 of Hickox, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 24, 2025 at her residence after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Nahunta, Rowell’s parents were Harvey Elmer Johns and Annie Grace Williams May. She is also preceded in death by her stepfather, Donnie May; and her father and mother-in-law, Virgil and Dottie Rowell.

Rowell was a bus driver for Brantley County and a nail tech for many years. She was very crafty and enjoyed making cakes, sewing, wood working and a lot more crafts.

Rowell loved going to the beach and especially loved spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Rowell of Hickox; a son and daughter- in-law, Brandon Rowell (Liz) of Hickox; two daughters and sons-inlaw, Erica Rowell (Joey Queen) of Hickox and Jamie Berrie (Josh) of Brunswick; a step daughter, Brandy Gill (Robbie) of Offerman; 10 grandchildren, Annilynn Grace Johns, Ross Devin Johns, Mattie Jules Johns, Ellie Jo Rowell, Emmie June Rowell, Brandson Crue Rowell, Elmer Jude Berrie, Rachel Leigh Berrie, Hunter Gill and Cole Gill; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion Strickland (Alan) of Hickox and Missy Cleland (Robbie) of Raybon; step mother, Susie Johns of Callahan; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon, December 30, 2025 at Frye Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Ricky Knox and Rev. Marlan DePratter officiating.

Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brandon Rowell, Hunter Strickland, Byron Strickland, Blake Cleland, Tony Sheppard and Jerome Williams. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
