Pierce County Public Library recently received a $10,000 grant from the Satilla REMC Foundation.
The Satilla REMC’s charitable organization distributed a second $10,000 grant to Wayne County Library. Both libraries are part of the Three Rivers Regional Library System. Six other grants were also given to other county libraries in Satilla REMC’s service area, but outside of the Three Rivers system.
“The Satilla Foundation was started 25 years ago,” says Satilla REMC PR coordinator and secretary for the foundation. “Members of the REMC have the option to round their bill up to the next whole dollar amount, which helps us do things like this.”
Parker reported that the foundation has given out over $2 million this year, $80,000 of which went to libraries.
“We really started focusing on libraries during Covid,” says Parker. “We used to give $5,000, but this year we stepped it up to $10,000.”
Parker enjoys his work for the Satilla Foundation. As a lifelong reader and father of three, he says he knows the importance of libraries and literacy, even if he spends more time reading to his kids these days than for himself.
Three Rivers Library System Director Jeremy Snell expressed thanks on behalf of the Pierce and Wayne County libraries, noting REMC’s donation showed their belief in the power of libraries. “Community partnerships like this are what keep our libraries thriving,” said Snell. “This funding will go directly toward enhancing the programs you love, helping us bring more services, events, and opportunities to our patrons.”
