Roxanne Carter has retired after 35 years of service at Blackshear’s PrimeSouth Bank. The local PrimeSouth branch held a party in honor of Carter, catered by Zels, which was attended by a large crowd of family, friends and coworkers.

“Roxanne has been such an important part of our success, particularly in the roles she has played in the Blackshear Branch,” said Bank President Jim Walker. “She was hired to work in the loan department originally, but throughout the years, she has served many roles at the bank and has been a true leader with her constant positive attitude.”

Blackshear Market Manager, Ty Wright said, “Roxanne has always been a rock for me at work as well as in my personal life. She always comes to work with a smile on her face and is truly willing to help any other employee or customer with anything needed at any time.”

“Janice Brown trained me when I started working at the bank September 1, 1990. She was a great influence on me, reminding me to always put our customers first, as without our customers, we would not have a job,” Carter said. “She also taught me to have good work ethics—the main one being, if you don’t have anything to do, find something!”

Carter has been a true icon in Blackshear and throughout Pierce and surrounding counties. She and her husband Butch, prior to his passing, were always true advocates of our community and were such a great team.

Both were members of the Blackshear Exchange Club, whose national project is to help prevent and educate others on the prevention of child abuse.

Carter joined the Exchange Club in 1988 and was the treasurer for about 15 years. She also served as president for one term. She has served on the board of the Magnolia House, whose mission is to empower victims of family violence to achieve safety and self-sufficiency. She has also been a member of the Chamber of Commerce for at least 35 years, serving on its board twice.

Butch and Roxanne were the first couple to win “The Citizen of the Year” award since the chamber started and they still hold that honor. She is currently on the Pierce County Foundation of Excellence for Education board, which is an organization that raises money for our school system. She is also on the board of Southeast Cancer Unit, which is near and dear to her heart due to what they do for those throughout Pierce, Ware and Brantley counties affected by cancer. Last, but not least, Carter is a proud member of Blackshear First Baptist Church for over 40 years where she has served on several committees.

She is in the “Seeking Sisters” Sunday School Class and said, “These sisters are my rock. All we have to do is say ‘I need praying for’ or ‘someone I know needs praying for,’ and suddenly, you have 25+ women lifting you up in prayer. What a blessing they are to me.”

Carter hopes to spend more quality time with her adult children, Craig and Kim, as well as her three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her sweet fur baby and constant companion Ben. She also reads a lot and loves the beach.

Carter said, “What a wonderful experience I’ve had throughout the years with PrimeSouth and our community. I look back and think, oh, that was so much fun! I may not have always had the funds to help a lot of folks, but as a group, we can help others and do amazing things for our community. Memories with all my personal family and friends at the bank and in the community will always be something I can treasure for the rest of my life.”

Bank co-workers said “God bless Roxanne! What a great role model she has been to us all.”
