Pierce JV Lady Bears open season with two home wins

BEARVILLE — Pierce County’s junior varsity Lady Bears opened their seasons winning two of their first three games.

The Lady Bears (2-1) opened Saturday, December 13 with a 40-21 victory over visiting Wayne County. PCHS followed Tuesday, December 16 with a 40-20 home decision Jeff Davis.

Pierce County fell 49-45 Friday, December 19 to Brantley County wrapping up the pre-Christmas schedule.

Lady Bears ............40 Wayne Co...............21 PCHS limited the Lady Yellow Jackets to a pair of first half baskets in building a double-digit lead en route to the victory.

The Lady Bears started quickly racing out to a 12-3 lead after one quarter. They outscored Wayne County 6-2 in the second stanza to take an 18-5 advantage to the locker room.

Each team scored eight points during the third period with PCHS taking a 26-13 lead. The Lady Bears outpointed Wayne County 14-8 in the fourth.

Kamil Strickland led seven Pierce County players in the scoring column with nine points. Patience Smith, Aubria Wilkins and Azalea Mobley each scored seven points. Jesslyn Moore and Jose’ziah James contributed four points apiece. Haley Guess bagged two points.

Lady Bears ...........40 Jeff Davis .............20 The Lady Bears limited Jeff Davis to seven points or less in every quarter to notch the victory.

PCHS scored 11 points in each of the first three periods in building a 17point advantage.

The Lady Bears outpointed Jeff Davis 11-7 in the first period and 11-6 during the second stanza to build a 22-13 advantage.

PCHS outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 11-3 in the third quarter stretching the margin to 33-16. The Lady Bears finished the game with a 7-4 scoring advantage in the final period.

Mobley (two treys) led Pierce County with a game-high 12 points — all in the first half. Smith and Guess were next with seven points including a trey apiece.

Strickland bagged six points with Wilkins contributing four points. Moore and James each chipped in two points.

Brantley Co. .........49 Lady Bears............45 Brantley County erased a 12-point halftime deficit storming back over the final two periods to beat the Lady Bears.

Down 28-16 at halftime, the Lady Herons outscored PCHS 18-5 in the third quarter in taking a 34-33 lead. BCHS outscored the Lady Bears 15-12 in the final stanza for the four-point margin.

PCHS rode the hot hand of Mobley (two treys), who scored 18 of her game-high 20 in the first half. The Lady Bears outpointed Brantley County 10-7 in the first period. PCHS doubled up the Lady Herons 18-9 in the second quarter with Mobley pouring in 14 points.

Wilkins followed Mobley’s lead finishing with 10 points. Strickland netted eight points, James scored four, Smith netted two points and Moore added a free throw.

Brantley County got 11 points from MiaKate Bates, who went 9-of-12 at the free throw line. The Lady Herons finished 20of-31 at the charity stripe while PCHS was 9-of-26.

Raeleigh Gibson was next in the scoring column with nine points. Brodie Allena and Jaclynn Evans (trey) each contributed seven points.

Edie Lowther and Allie Gray followed with six points and five points. Natalie Hester and Emersyn Payne bagged two points apiece.
