Lady Herons’ winning streak at four after beating Wayne, PCHS

Brantley County stretched its winning streak to four games with the Lady Herons notching a pair of road wins at Wayne County and Pierce County.

The Lady Herons (7-1) completed the season sweep of the Lady Yellow Jackets (8-5), who entered with three straight wins, rallying for a 43-41 victory Tuesday, December 16. BCHS won the first matchup at home December 4 42-36.

Brantley County handed the Lady Bears (2-7) a third consecutive loss with a 48-25 decision Friday, December 19 in Bearville.

The Lady Herons will next play Tuesday, December 30 when Appling County visits Caney Bay. The Lady Pirates handed the Lady Herons their lone loss of the season December 2 in Baxley winning 44-39.

JESUP — Tamiyah Coley’s late three capped a furious comeback by the Lady Herons to upend homestanding Wayne County.

Coley (four treys, team-high six steals, rebound, assist) hit three longrange jumpers in the final period scoring nine of her career-high and gamehigh 18 points in the come-form-behind victory. Abbie Lee (trey, team-high six rebounds, three steals, assist) added 16 points.

Anniston Bowers (two rebounds, two steals) and Chloe Johns (four rebounds, steal) followed with four points and three points respectively. Julie Carter (three rebounds, assist, steal) netted two points.

Down 33-27 entering the final eight minutes, BCHS’s deficit reached doubledigits at the six-minute mark. The comeback was keyed by Johns’ old-fashioned three-point play. Coley scored the final nine points.

Wayne County started fast hitting four treys in the first period en route to claiming a 17-12 lead. Two more threes in the second quarter helped the Lady Yellow Jackets to an 11-9 scoring advantage and a 28-21 halftime lead.

The scoring pace slowed in the third stanza with the Lady Herons holding a 65 advantage closing the deficit to 33-27. BCHS doubled up the Lady Yellow Jackets over the final eight minutes 16-8.

Wayne County was led by Mimi Everett’s (three treys) 16 points. Alyssa Robinson added 10 points.

BEARVILLE — Brantley County overcame an early three-point deficit slowly pulling away from the Lady Bears for the victory.

Ella Highsmith (four rebounds) and Lee (five rebounds, three steals, assist) led the Lady Herons scoring 12 points apiece for game-high honors.

Brantley County scored the final four points of the opening period in taking a 7-6 lead. The Lady Herons outscored PCHS 15-4 during the second quarter to open up a 22-10 advantage at intermission.

BCHS broke the game open in the third stanza outscoring the Lady Bears 21-6 extending the margin to 43-16. Each team made just one basket over the final eight minutes with Pierce County finishing the final canto with a 9-5 scoring advantage.

Johns (two treys, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals) and Bowers (trey, three assists, rebound) contributed eight points and seven points respectively. Coley (three assists, two steals, rebound) bagged four points, Kirsten Smith (trey, team-high nine rebounds, assist) finished with three points with Sarah Grace Tompkins (two rebounds, assist) netting two points.

The Lady Bears were paced by the seven points of McGatha and Hutcheson (two treys). Murray contributed five points, Alayna Bell chipped in four points and Marx added two points.
