Sweat
WAYCROSS — Linda Marie Wheeler Sweat, 83, of Waycross died Tuesday evening, December 16, 2025, at Baptist Village Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Sweat was born in Daytona Beach, Fla., to the late Wright G. Wheeler, Sr. and Marie Fitzgerald Wheeler, and made Waycross her home for most of her life.
She worked for the Georgia Department of Family and Child ren’s Services helping children b e adopted and retired from the Ware County Board of Education where she taught at Wacona Elementary School and Ware County Middle School. She also worked as a sales representative for Mary Kay, achieving awards as the Star Team Builder, she really enjoyed the job and loved every customer.
Mrs. Sweat enjoyed traveling. She spent lots of time traveling with her husband, family and with her Mary Kay family. She was a talented crafter, making things such as wreaths and jewelry, and she had a passion for shopping. Mrs. Sweat was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Waycross.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Ottis A. Sweat, Jr.
Mrs. Sweat is survived by two children, Stephen Sweat, wife Maribel, of Ringgold, Ga., and Jennifer Oglesby, ,husband Randall, of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Holly Elizabeth Corrales, husband Carlos, of Atlanta, Catilyn Sarah-Marie Sweat of Chattanooga, Tenn., Isabella Stephanie Sweat of Ringgold, Tarah Mae Stonecypher (Tucker) of Waycross, and Christopher Warren Oglesby (Megan) of Jacksonville; one great grandchild, Luna Corrales; two siblings, Margaret Hansard, husband Larry, of Rome, Ga., and Wright Wheeler, Jr., wife Karen, of Fayetteville, Ark.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was December 19 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
