A monument at the grave of Sgt. Kennedy L. Sanders in Oakland Cemetery was unveiled Saturday morning in conjunction with the annual Wreaths Across America celebration for fallen veterans. The Kennedy L. Sanders Foundation presented the memorial for the Waycross native to family, friends and members of the community in the December 13 ceremony. Sanders was among three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers — all from Georgia — killed January 28, 2024, in a drone attack on their base in remote Jordan. After the monument’s unveiling, the group placed wreaths on the graves of fallen members of the military in the cemetery.
