Patterson City Council Highlights

(The Patterson City Council discussed and/or voted on the following items during their monthly meeting Thursday, December 11.)

Peach Avenue speed bumps: The council voted unanimously to install new speed bumps on Peach Avenue. Patterson resident and Former State Senator Earl Echols requested the speed bumps as a way to slow down traffic near his home . The road sees increased traffic from Walkerville Road as a shortcut to Georgia Highway 32, especially on school days.

Councilman Jim Echols recognized: Councilman Jim Echols was recognized for his service on the Patterson City Council. Mayor Dedi Thomas thanked Echols for representing the citizens of Patterson for the past four years. Echols will be leaving the council at the end of his term on Dec. 31. Ray Douberly will be sworn in to the seat in January.

Department reports: Police Chief Nick Strickland gave the police report. Strickland reported the department responded to 12 calls in November including 11 calls for service. The department investigated a traffic accident and assisted with the recent high speed chase that passed through the city. Public Works Superintendent Tyler Stokes reported the tennis court renovations have been completed. He also reported the department put up the city’s Christmas decorations and is working on cleaning up the sidewalks since the growing season is over and vegetation can be removed. He also reported several minor water leaks had been repaired. As fire chief, Stokes reported the fire department responded to 10 fire calls and one medical call and had completed eight hours of training during the month. City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon had nothing to report. Councilman David Smith encouraged everyone to attend Christmas at Eagle Station (held last night, Dec. 16.)

Next meeting: The next regular monthly meeting will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Eagle Station.
