PCMS swimmers compete in meet

WAYCROSS — Pierce County Middle School placed third overall here Monday in a meet at the YMCA.

The Lady Bears logged a second-place finish in the girls’ meet with the Bears third in the boys’ meet.

The Bears’ Jaxon Coates notched first-place finishes in four individual events winning the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.1), 50 butterfly (34.93 seconds), 50 breaststroke (38.12 sec.) and 25 free (12.81 sec.).

The Bears’ 200 medley relay team of Dow Walker, Eli Thorne, Ian Martinez and Coates were runner-up with a time of 3:03.94.

Lily Gray Wright had the best finish for the Lady Bears placing second in the 200 intermediate finishing with a time of 3:41.58.

The Lady Bears’ registered a third- and fifth-place showing in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Emma Sergent, Lily Gray Wright, Charli Paszko and Ryleigh Taylor clocked a time of 2:39.55 placing third. The team of Marlie Ryals, Erica Coggin, Lakota Davis and Samaree Jernigan posted a time of 2:51.2 to finish fifth.

The Lady Bears’ 200 free relay teams placed fourth and fifth respectively. Finishing fourth with a time of 2:18.61 were Wright, Davis, Sergent and Paszko (2:18.61). Placing fifth with a time of 2:34.25 were Samaree Jernigan, Ryals, Coggin and Taylor.
