Graduates of Waycross High and Waycross Middle can leave a legacy to the years with their old schools at the new WMS under construction on Central Avenue.
Commemorative, engraved bricks are being sold by the Waycross Middle School Legacy Brick Fundraiser into next month for placement at the school’s entrance upon completion of the new structure sometime next summer.
The tan bricks are available in two sizes — 4-inch x 8inch and 8 x 8. Each size can be customized with not only text to honor a former or current student, teacher, administrator, coach or staff member, but also a variety of logos related to the school’s bulldogs mascot.
Depending on the size and custom elements on the brick, prices range from $100 to $210. Also, for an additional $10 those who get a brick can buy a 4 x 4 leather coaster with the same inscription as on their brick.
Anyone who buys a brick also can receive an actual brick from the current school when it is razed.
The current school was formerly Waycross High before it closed after its final graduating class in 1994 and consolidated with Ware County High for the start of the 1994-95 school year.
A 4 x 8 brick with text only is $110 while one with text and one of the seven logos is $110. Those costs for the 8 x 8 brick are $200 and $210.
Deadline to order a brick or brick and coaster is Thursday, January 15. Sample bricks can be viewed and orders placed online by visiting https://polarengraving.co m/waycrossms.
Payment by check can be mailed to Waycross Middle School, 700 Central Avenue, Waycross, 31501. Those with questions can email wmslegacybrick@ ware.k12.ga.us or call 287-2333 to speak with Principal David Hitt or bookkeeper Rachel Tuten.
Each brick will help fund programs and opportunities for current and future students at Waycross Middle School. As a permanent part of the campus, the brick’s tribute will last for generations.
