Pierce County bookend a three-game slate with a pair of losses around a 40point win during a busy week of action.
Charlton County (4-3), winners in four of its last five games, pulled away in the second half Tuesday, December 9 to complete the season sweep of the Lady Bears (2-5) notching a 48-33 road win. The Indian Maidens recorded a 49-29 victory November 20 at home.
PCHS ended its second two-game skid Thursday night in Mt. Veron handing winless Montgomery County (0-6) a 25th consecutive loss dating back to last season posting a 53-13 “mercy rule” victory.
It marked the first time since December 29, 2023 -46 games - the Lady Bears were on the winning side of the “mercy rule”. PCHS has won 14 “shortened” games since the 2020-21 season covering 140 games (78-62 won-loss record).
Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles are just 230 since losing in the 2024 Class A championship game ending a three-year run of 82-7.
Pierce County wrapped up the week falling 45-34 Saturday, December 13 to visiting Wayne County (6-4). The victory was the third straight for the Lady Yellow Jackets and fifth in six games.
Pierce County finishes out its pre-Christmas schedule with Jeff Davis visiting Tuesday, December 16. The Lady Bears travel Friday, December 19 to Brantley County.
Charlton County .......................48 Lady Bears ................................33 BEARVILLE — Charlton County’s Christiona Farmer scored 18 of her game-high 31 points in the second half fueling the Indian Maidens’ second half surge.
Farmer, who is averaging 25.7 points per game, surpassed the 30-point mark for the third time including her second against PCHS. She connected on four of her five treys over the final 16 minutes. Farmer scored a season-high 34 points in the first meeting.
Charlton County claimed a one-point margin at the end of the opening stanza leading 9-8. The Indian Maidens doubled up PCHS 8-4 in the second period to take a 1712 lead into intermission.
Farmer drilled three quick treys to start the third quarter fueling a 1611 Charlton County scoring advantage extending the margin to 33-23. Her nine points in the fourth period helped the Indian Maidens outscore the home team 15-10.
Isabella Marx and Ansley Hutcheson paced PCHS with nine points and eight points respectively. Madi McGatha and Claire Murray netted six points apiece. Caren Drew finished with four points.
Farmer was the lone double figure scorer for Charlton County.
Lady Bears.............53 Montgomery Co......13 MT. VERNON — The Lady Bears’ defense did not allow Montgomery County to convert a field goal over the final threeplus periods in rolling to the victory.
Murray scored eight of her game-high 15 points in the opening stanza helping the Lady Bears to a 127 advantage. Pierce County outpointed the Lady Eagles 11-1 in the second period to open up a 23-8 halftime lead.
The Lady Bears blew the game open in the third quarter outscoring Montgomery County 18-2 extending the margin to 41-10. They finished the game with a 12-3 scoring advantage for the 40point margin.
Eight other players scored at least two points for PCHS. Drew just missed double figures netting nine points. Marx and McGatha followed with six points apiece.
Jose’ziah James was next with five points. Layla Chandel and Keirstin Jones bagged eight points apiece. Azalea Mobley and Hutcheson each netted two points.
Trinity Wideman paced the Lady Eagles with five points.
Wayne Co...............45 Lady Bears.............34 BEARVILLE — Wayne County’s trio of Alyssa Robinson, Jakeliah Fullmore and Mimi Everette combined for 41 points lifting the Lady Yellow Jackets past PCHS.
Robinson led the way with a game-high 17 points. Fullmore and Everett each scored 12 points.
Murray topped the Lady Bears’ scoring column with 16 points.
Wayne County stymied PCHS in the opening period in building an 8-2 lead. The visitors outpointed the Lady Bears 1611 in the second stanza to take a 24-13 lead at the break.
Pierce County clipped two points off the deficit in the third quarter outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets 9-7 to climb to within 31-22. Wayne County used a 14-12 scoring advantage in the fourth period for the final margin.
Marx followed Murray in the scoring column with eight points. McGatha chipped in five points. Alayna Bell and Hutcheson netted two points apiece with Drew finishing with a free throw.
