A Blackshear woman was shot and another Blackshear woman arrested following a midnight shooting last Monday on McDuffie Street.
Officers with the Blackshear Police Department responded to 500 McDuffie Street at midnight Monday, Dec. 2, to a report of a female who had been shot, according to Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright.
The victim was identified as Germainia Jernigan. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Vaneshia Fields. Fields fled the scene in a 2003 light blue Honda Pilot and then fled to Florida. She was arrested there Thursday, Dec. 4 and returned to Pierce County to face charges.
Fields is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, two counts false imprisonment, cruelty to children in the first degree, cruelty to children in the third degree and aggravated battery.
Fields is currently being held in the Pierce County Jail.
Detective Ashton Thomas is in charge of the investigation. The investigation is active and ongoing.
