With a weather forecast calling for a near 100 percent chance of rain throughout the day December 6, the City of Waycross postponed its annual Christmas festival to this weekend.
“Santa’s Beach Bash,” the summerthemed event around the streets of downtown, now will be held beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 13. Weather forecast for the day calls for partly sunny skies with temperatures in the low-60s and little chance of rain.
Visitors to the fest will find music, vendors, a variety of food and beverages, shopping, games, a benefit race and finally the annual Christmas parade at 6:30 p.m. The parade in Waycross will follow its traditional route, starting in Pernell Roberts Memorial Park ad continuing up Elizabeth Street into downtown before moving left onto Plant Avenue. The procession takes a left on Carswell Avenue, a right on Church Street and a left on Albany Avenue to Tebeau Street.
The parade’s final stretch comes after a right on Isabella Street for a return to the park.
Satilla Advocacy Services has its annual Downtown Dash and Dine Saturday, an event held in memory of Cindy Wade Tanner, who’s remembered for her love of running and her unwavering commitment to serving youth.
The event features a festive 3K Elf Run, where runners are challenged to “catch the Elf if you can,” followed by a 1-mile fun run, suitable for all ages.
Race Day registration and packet pickup for those who registered in advance is at noon. The 3K is $25 and begins at 1 p.m. followed by the $10 fun run. Call (912) 2857355 for information.
The weather also brought postponements to holiday celebrations in Nahunta and Hoboken. The parade in Hoboken now will be at 6 p.m. December 13 while Nahunta’s Christmas fest will be December 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in its downtown area highlighted by the parade at noon.
Blackshear’s Christmas parade was December 8.
