WAYCROSS — Mrs. Joan Murray, 87, of Waycross, died early Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.
She was born in Mayo, Fla., to the late Thomas Wesley Hewitt and Katie Thomas Hewitt. Mrs. Murray married her husb and, Lavier, on May 25, 1956, and they moved to Waycross in 1971. She worked as office manager for Dr. Bill Dorminy and for Dr. Smith and Dr. Manus Dentistry before retiring.
Mrs. Murray enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking and entertaining guests in her home. She had a passion for decorating and especially enjoyed decorating her home for Christmas. Family was always the most important part of her life. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who cherished any moment she was able to spend with her family.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by nine siblings and her father-in-law and motherin- law, Ottis and Dossie Murray.
Mrs. Murray is survived by her husband, Lavier Murray of Waycross; three children, Michael Murray (Cathy) of Leesburg, Ga., Kathi Murray of Waycross, and Kimberly Whipple (Tom) of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Lacy Wilson (John), Kalynn Tomlinson (Aaron), Dalton Murray, Chase Murray, Jacob Whipple, Megan Whipple, Jeremy Whipple, Brittany Whipple, and Travis Whipple; 10 great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
