HAZLEHURST — Ware County’s grappling Gators recorded a fourthplace finish here Saturday in Gold Division at the two-day, 28-team 19th annual Yellow Jacket Duals hosted by Jeff Davis.
The Gators went unscathed in Pool D posting a 5-0 record with a 76-6 victory over Lamar County, 53-24 over East Laurens, 77-5 over Bacon County, 75-6 over host Jeff Davis, and 53-24 over Lexington (S.C.).
Ware County opened the eight-team Gold Division tournament knocking off Brantley County 69-6. Toombs County clipped the Gators 42-41 in the semifinals with Bradley (Tenn.) capturing the fourth-place match 49-28.
Ashton Cox (106 lbs.) went 4-2 winning twice via pinfall. Jordan Maxwell (113) finished 60 for the tournament with three pins. Leve Moore (120) also went unbeaten posting a 5-0 mark with three pins.
Noah Paul (126) went 5-2 in his weight class with three pins. Rodrigo Reyes (132) finished 6-1 with three pin wins. Wesley Frye (138) notched a 4-3 mark with three pins.
Evan Thomas (144) posted a 5-2 mark with four pinfalls. Jaden McKelvin (150; two pins) and Aaron Bennett (157; five pins) each finished the tournament 7-0.
Maleek Mackey (165) dropped his final two matches to finish 6-2 with three pins. Gunter Fore (175) recorded
a 6-1 record with four pins. Collin Deal (190) posted a
5-2 record with four pins.
Jalen Hampton (215; four pins) went 5-2 over the two days as did Kyler Matthews (285; three pins).
