NAHUNTA – Joseph “Joey” Darrell Steedley, 63 of Nahunta, passed away Monday, December 1, 2025 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., after an extended illness.
Born in Fitzgerald, Steedley’s parents are Elizabeth Patricia “Pat” Herrin Anders and the late Seward Jackson “Jackie” Steedley.
He was a dispatcher for OREMC and a member of Hickox Baptist Church. Steedley is one of the founding family members of the Grace Baptist Church and loved his son with all his heart.
Steedley enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs.
Survivors include his son, JoJo Steedley of Nahunta; thre step children, Daniel Johnson, Jack Johnson and Darian Moore, all of Nahunta; his mother, Pat Herrin Anders of Suwannee, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Chris Steedley (Emma) of Nahunta; a sister, Sandra Steedley Barker of Jacksonville, Fla.; three nieces, April Bonner (Brad) of Richmond Hill, Alisha Mease (Jeff) of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and Beth Millican (Robie) of St. Simons; two nephews, Jackson Steedley (Kali) of Jesup and Jake Steedley (Faith) of Nahunta; eight great nieces and nephews; his best friend, Missi Steedley of Nahunta; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.
A funeral service was held Saturday morning, December 6, 2025 at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Giddens officiating.
Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Juke Johns, Colt Stallings, Kippie Ham, Stanley Dowling, Tracy LeRoy Harris and Scott Highsmith.
Honorary pallbearers will be OREMC employees and Brantley County High School Class of 1980.
Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
