The Hoboken City Council discussed/voted on the following agenda items during its Tuesday, December 2 monthly meeting.
• Approval of December agenda: The council (board) approved the agenda for the December regular council meeting.
• Approval of November minutes: Council members (board) approved the minutes of the previous regular council meeting held in November.
• Road Closure: The council (board), on the recommendation of Mayor Joey Crews, (elected to) tabled the decision to close Dogwood/ Coweta Road until their January meeting.
• Garbage fee rate increase: Public garbage fees will increase by .83 cents cents per can in January.
“That leaves us about $1.50 to operate on,” Crews said to the council members. “We might have to go up some. Just be thinking about the mark up a little bit in January to help cover the cost.”
When asked about the contract, Crews says the current contract ends next year (2026).
• Hoboken Police Department: Chief Sammy Hendrix reported the Hoboken Police Department answered 45 calls for service, conducted 24 business and residential checks, conducted 119 traffic stops, issued (wrote) 41 citations and gave 78 verbal warnings in the month of November.
• Street/Water Departments: Mayor Crews reported the county proposed a quote of $21,725 to restripe from the curve on Raybon Rock Road just past the City Park to the red light at the intersection of Hwy. 82.
“I thought it was a little high,” said the mayor. “When we do our next road paving we can bump up the payment and get it done a lot cheaper.”
Mayor Crews asked for a (made a) motion to not accept the bid.
Outgoing Mayor Pro-tem Robin Helmuth made the motion to not accept the bid with a second by Councilman Kenny Jordan. The motion passed unanimously.
• Christmas Parade: The Christmas Parade and Festival was scheduled for Saturday, December 6 at 6 p.m. The parade committee voted to postpone the event and reschedule to Saturday, December 13 at 6 p.m., due to forecasted rain.
• Councilwoman Robin Helmuth: After eight years of service, Mayor Pro-tem/councilwoman Robin Helmuth was recognized during her last council meeting.
Helmuth assured the council (board that) she will remain an active member in the community.
