Special to the WJH
The spirit of generosity was on full display as the staff of Memorial Satilla Health wrapped up its annual Holiday Food Drive just before Thanksgiving.
MSH collected 3,686 pounds of food, which translates to approximately 3,072 meals for families in need. The donations will benefit food pantries serving Ware and Pierce Counties.
The hospital’s contribution included 3,536 individual items and will be shared among two critical local organizations — DC Downtown Food Ministries and Pierce County Food Pantry.
“Our staff shows up every day for our patients, and this effort demonstrates that same commitment to our broader community,” said CEO Damon Barrett. “Their contributions will make a genuine impact on our friends and neighbors across Ware, Pierce, and Brantley Counties this holiday season.”
The food drive also featured a friendly internal competition, which saw departments vying for a coveted perpetual trophy and bragging rights.
The Emergency Department (ED) secured the firstplace victory, donating an outstanding 1,500 items and retaining the Food Drive trophy for another year. The ED team will also receive a celebratory department lunch in recognition of their efforts.
The hospital also recognized runner-up Radiology and Surgical Services for third place.
