CANEY BAY — Brantley County split a non-region matchup with visiting Atkinson County for the second time in 11 days.
The Lady Herons (3-0), one of three unbeaten Region 1A teams (Bacon County 4-0, Worth County 2-0), completed the season sweep of the Lady Rebels (02) winning 66-39. BCHS notched a 61-27 season-opening victory November 14 in Pearson.
The Herons (1-2) fell for the second time to the unbeaten “Johnny Rebs” (3-0) losing 5541. Atkinson County claimed the season opener 67-47.
No information was reported on the boys’ game.
Brantley County traveled Tuesday, December 2 to Baxley to face Appling County. Wayne County visits Thursday, December 4.
Brantley County is hosting state-ranked Clinch County Tuesday, December 9. Both the Lady Panthers and Panthers are ranked fifth in Class A Division II.
BCHS travels Friday, December 12 to Charlton County. The Indian Maidens are ranked 10th.
Lady Herons ..................66 Atkinson County ............39 Abbie Lee recorded her fourth double-double scoring a careerhigh 24 points and 12 rebounds leading the Lady Herons past Atco.
Lee’s double-double streak started in an overtime scrimmage win at Tattnall County. She added seven rebounds and two assists.
The Lady Herons took control in the opening stanza racing out to a 16-6 advantage. They pitched a second quarter shutout outscoring the visitors 15-0 for a 31-6 halftime lead.
The scoring pace quickened in the third period with each team scoring 21 points with BCHS holding a 52-27 lead entering the final eight minutes. The Lady Herons outpointed Atco 14-12 in the fourth stanza.
Julie Carter (six rebounds, three assists, steal) joined Lee in double figures with 11 points. Mia Kate Bates (two assists, two steals) and Tamiyah Coley (rebound, assist, steal) followed with eight points each.
Chloe Johns (two rebounds, two assists, steal) was next with five points. Ella Highsmith (team-high 14 rebounds, three assists) and Anniston Bowers each bagged four points. Grace Carver (rebound) netted two points).

Herons...........................41 Atkinson County overcame a two-point halftime deficit outscoring the Herons by 15 points over the final two periods for the win.
The Rebels jumped out to a 13-6 lead by the end of the first period. Brantley County responded outscoring the visitors 15-6 in the second stanza to take a 21-19 halftime lead.
Atco regained the advantage through three quarters using a 14-11 scoring advantage for a 3332 lead. The Rebels outscored BCHS 22-9 over the final eight minutes to remain perfect in three outings.
