The Brantley Beacon will not serve as City of Nahunta legal organ in 2026

The Nahunta City Council made a decision concerning the legal organ for 2026 at Monday night's meeting, December 1, 2025.

The council voted for the Brantley County Express to be the legal organ for 2026. The title of legal organ will alternate each year with The Brantley Beacon becoming the legal organ for 2027.

The council approved the acceptance of a VHS for resurfacing both Brooker Street and Roosevelt Street. The council selected Georgia Asphalt Producers, Inc. for the amount of $56,789.29.

The sanitation rates for 2026 will be $18 for residential and the Council voted to give it to Ryland Sanitation.

Nahunta Police Chief Brad Todd gave the following information for the month of November:

382 E911 calls

250 traffic stops

125 citations issued

125 warnings issued

11 incident reports filed

3 accident reports filed

12 arrests made There were no juvenile arrests nor code enforcement compliants.

Jeremy Ryan gave the Public Works Department report stating there were 304 work orders for the month of November.

The City of Nahunta is getting ready with their Christmas lights and the upcoming parade, but two poles need repair. One is on the corner of Hwy. 301 and Hwy. 82 with the other at Hughes Street and Hwy. 82.

Georgia Power will be handling the repairs.

City Clerk Angie Wirth mentioned the City Council Christmas Party is being held Thursday, December 18 at L.L. Creek. The employees will do Dirty Santa gifts with $15 limit. Smaller gifts will be purchased for those who cannot afford to bring gifts.

Wirth said the Christmas Parade is expected to proceed as planned for Saturday, December 6, but there is the possibility of rain that day.

City officials are awaiting word from the Chamber of Commerce of of a possible change. City Manager Tom Wirth will seek permission from the Department of Transportation (DOT) for a change if necessary.

The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at the Brantley County Courthouse at 7 p.m., Thursday.

The next City Council meeting will be Monday, January 5th at 7:00 p.m.
