Pierce County Volunteer Fire Department (PCVFD) was recently awarded an AgSouth Growing Our Communities Grant.
The PCVFD was one of only 43 projects chosen to receive the grant from Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The PCVFD plans to use the funds to purchase grain rescue equipment for the grain facilities in the county.
Fire Chief Chris Todd and Assistant Chief Nathan Aldridge attended a farm medic class and understood the importance of having the right equipment when the time came.
“This grant gives us the ability to save lives and keep us safe at the same time,” said Chief Todd.
The PCVFD is made up of two full-time firefighters and 66 volunteers covering 344 square miles and a population of almost 20,000.
Each recipient was eligible to receive up to $5,000. The grant recipients were selected from 210 grant applications received across Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
“Our Growing Our Communities Grant is another way that AgSouth Farm Credit strives to enhance agriculture and rural communities in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.” said Chad Puryear, CEO, AgSouth Farm Credit, “These grants help provide project funding for many great organizations across our territory.”
AgSouth Farm Credit provides loans for land, equipment and production agriculture, crop insurance, leasing and home mortgages.
