One killed, one hurt in car vs. bus wreck on Ware St.

A Waycross woman died and her husband was critically injured in a car/bus wreck Monday afternoon, Nov. 10, at the intersection of Ware Street Extension and Meadow Wood Road in Pierce County.

Lu Ann Jenkins, 70, died in the emergency room at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, of injuries she received in the wreck, according to Pierce County Coroner William Wilson.

Jenkins was reportedly a passenger in an SUV driven by her husband. Her husband, whose name was not released, was taken to Memorial Satilla Health and later transferred by helicopter to a Jacksonville, FL, trauma center.

The bus and the SUV collided at the intersection.

The driver and two students were on board the bus at the time of the accident. No one on the bus was injured in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.

A spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol said Friday the state’s specialized collision reconstruction team (SCRT) is working the investigation. The accident report was not complete at press time.
