(The Patterson City Council discussed and/or voted on the following items during their monthly meeting Thursday, November 13. ) Peach Avenue speeding issue: Patterson resident and Former State Senator Earl Echols was on the agenda to discuss the issue of speeding near his home on Peach Avenue. Echols was not present at the meeting, but he has previously appeared before the council to request speed bumps be placed on Peach Avenue to slow traffic on the road. The road sees increased traffic from Walkerville Road as a shortcut to Georgia Highway 32, especially on school days. Mayor Dedi Thomas asked council members to consider having a work session to discuss the speeding issue and the possibility of installing the speed bumps. No action was taken at Thursday’s meeting.
Department reports: Police Chief Nick Strickland gave the police report. Dixon reported the department responded to 30 calls in October including 18 calls for service. The department made nine traffic stops and issued four citations and investigated three accidents. Public Works Superintendent Tyler Stokes was not present due to illness. It was noted that sidewalks are now being cleaned since the growing season is over and vegetation can be removed. A request by Councilman David Smith on removing a fallen sycamore tree was declined since it was not on city right-of-way. City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon was also not present for the meeting.
