Toxicology report still pending on bicyclist killed in accident

The Georgia State Patrol has completed its report on a fatal bicycle/truck accident Saturday night, Nov. 8.

Alonzo Giron Guzman, 28, died of injuries he sustained after he was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle on U.S. Highway 84 near the Farr’s Community.

According to the accident report by the Georgia State Patrol, Guzman had left the Circle K on Ware Street Extension and was riding his bike east along the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 84. He then attempted to cross the busy four-lane and cross over to head south on Oak Ridge Circle when he was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driven by Kimberly Beckworth, 57, of Baxley.

Beckworth was not physically injured in the wreck.

Guzman died in the emergency room at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, of injuries he sustained in the wreck.

Guzman reportedly lived in the Oak Ridge community in Pierce County although his identification listed his address as Tenejapas, Chiapas State in southern Mexico. Friends report he had recently gotten married.

Law enforcement sources tell The Times Guzman may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, but toxicology reports are pending.

The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.

Troopers Justin Jones and Austin Edwards of the Georgia State Patrol were in charge of the accident investigation.
