WAYCROSS — Rose Lee Dowling Calhoun, 100, of Waycross, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025.
She was born December 28, 1924, in Hoboken to John Henry and Lula DuBose Dowling.
She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in education and was a teacher and librarian in the Waycross City School System. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 77 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Uley T. Calhoun; her sisters Estelle McCord, Louise Druhl, and Valeria Guittar; her brothers Robert Dowling, John Dowling, and Paul Dowling.
She is survived by her daughters, Penny (George) Martin of Blackshear,
Calhoun
and Peggy Whaley of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Paige Dilts of Jacksonville, Fla., John (Caitlin) Pike of Waycross, Casey (Angela) Whaley of Statesboro, and Cale Whaley of Valdosta; four great grandchildren, Ashton and Emory Dilts, and Avery and Ella Pike; a sister, Linda Hickox of Hoboken; a sister-in-law, Lois Dowling of Waycross; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held.
