City teens charged in armed robbery

Firearm sale ends with gunpoint theft

NAHUNTA — Four Waycross teens were arrested Wednesday night November 12, and charged in connection to an armed robbery in Nahunta.

Davin Isiah Miller (19 years old), Ayanda Peterson Nkese (18), Eli Eugene Walker (17) and Keitron Jamar Byrd (17), all of Waycross, were taken into custody that evening after an unrelated traffic stop.

“It deeply disturbs me to see young men involved in gun crimes of this magnitude,” said Nahunta Police Chief Brad Todd. “The level of violence and reckless disregard for human life displayed in this incident is unacceptable in our community. Our CSIU detectives work around the clock to ensure a safe and secure Nahunta, and if you choose to prey on others, they will catch you.”

At approximately 9:51 p.m., officers with the Nahunta Police Department were dispatched to Florida Avenue in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival, Det. Travis Smith met with the complainant, who reported he had been robbed at gunpoint during a planned firearm transaction, authorities said.

The investigation revealed the complainant had pre-arranged a meeting with one of the suspects to conduct a firearm sale. When the suspects arrived, one of the individuals produced a handgun and forcibly stole the victim’s firearm before fleeing the area in a vehicle.

Simultaneously and unrelated to the armed robbery call, Det. Larry Champion, who was on patrol in the area, initiated a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. Det. Champion, with the assistance of Deputy Drew Stone of the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office, detained the occupants without incident.

Walker and Byrd were each charged with Party to a Crime – Armed Robbery, Party to a Crime – Aggravated Assault, Possession of Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of Handgun by a Person Under 18 and Possession of Marijuana.

“I’m always thankful for the hard work and dedication of our CSIU detectives and the officers of the Nahunta Police Department,” said Mayor Marty Lee. “Their swift actions and professionalism continue to protect our citizens day and night.”

The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be pending a review by the District Attorney’s Office, officials said.
