A Waycross woman died and her husband was critically injured in a car/bus wreck Monday afternoon, November 10, at the intersection of Ware Street Extension and Meadow Wood Road in Pierce County.
Lu Ann Jenkins, 70, died in the emergency room at Memorial Satilla Health, of injuries she received in the wreck, according to Pierce County Coroner William Wilson.
Jenkins was reportedly a passenger in an SUV driven by her husband. Her husband, whose name was not released, was taken to Memorial Satilla Health and later transferred by helicopter to a Jacksonville, Fla., trauma center, authorities said.
The bus and the SUV collided at the intersection. The driver and two students were on board the bus at the time of the accident.
No one on the bus was injured in the accident. which remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. The accident report was not complete before press time Monday evening, November 17.
