Pierce County and Brantley County will renew region acquaintances following the placement of teams in regions last week by the GHSA.
The Georgia High School Association’s reclassification process included adding Class 7A as each class was bumped up.
PCHS and the Herons will play in Class AAA meaning Brantley County, a member of Class A Division I the last two years, bypassed Class AA.
The new Region 3-AAA kept Pierce County, Appling County and Tattnall County. Added were Brantley County, Beach of Savannah, Islands of Savannah, Johnson-Savannah and Toombs County.
Teams will play a sevengame region schedule leaving three non-region playing dates.
Cook and Crisp County, two members of the old Region 3-AA alignment, were moved to Region 1AAA. Cook is appealing for a lateral move from the region that will included Carver-Columbus, Sumter County and Worth County, a former Region 1-A member with BCHS .
Brantley County (0-10) has won just two of its last 21 games entering 2026. the Herons are 3-20 vs. Appling County, 13-30 vs. PCHS and 6-10 vs. Tattnall County.
BCHS is 16-45 this decade with two playoff appearances.
Toombs County, the defending Class A DI champion, is currently 10-1 entering the second round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs are the lone newcomer entering with a winning 2025 record.
Over the last three years, Toombs County is 34-4 under head coach Buddy Martin. The Bulldogs have made the state playoffs nine of the last 10 years.
Toombs County is 5019 since 2020 with six second round appearances. Brantley County is 5-2 against Toombs County.
Beach (5-5) made the first round of the Class 3A playoffs before being ousted. The Bulldogs are 10-11 the last two years after a 5-40 stretch from 2019-23.
Beach last had a winning season (7-3) in 2003 and three 5-5 seasons this century. The Bulldogs are 2-4 vs. Brantley County.
Islands (1-9) ended a 37-game losing streak during the 2025 campaign beating Groves, which finished 0-10 season. The Sharks, who will be entering their 13th season, are 12-47 this decade and 2892 overall.
Islands is 0-4 against Brantley County.
Johnson-Savannah (28) last produced a winning record (6-4) in 2000. The Atomsmashers are 20-38 this decade.
They lead Brantley County 4-2.
