Shirley Jean Tanner Clough

Shirley Jean Tanner Clough, 74, of Blackshear, passed away Monday evening, November 10, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, following a short illness.
Born May 10, 1951, in Alma, she was a daughter of the late James Otis and Velma Geraldine Evans Tanner. She lived most of her life in Bacon and Pierce Counties and had worked for the Bacon County Sheriff’s Department as a jailer, dispatcher and cook.  For the last several decades, she and her family have owned and operated Clough Pecan Company where she was the Chief Financial Officer.
A longtime member of Blackshear First Baptist Church, she attended the Faith Walkers Sunday School Class.
She was also a member of the Georgia Pecan Growers Association but above all else, she enjoyed being a mama and Nena to her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vasco Carroll Tanner; second husband, Andrew Lee “Andy” Clough Jr.; a son, Jerry Tanner; a sister, Kathy Rigby and five brothers-in-law, Tommy Anderson, Riley Rigby, Cordy Calhoun, Wayne Clough and Stephen Waters Jr.
Survivors include five children, Jamie Tanner (Cindy), John Tanner (Roxanne), Joni Byrd (Steven), Chris Clough (Susan) and Matthew Clough (Ashley); three step-children, Andrew Clough (Edurne), Archie Clough (Mysti) and Renee Choate; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two more expected soon;  an honorary grandson, Slade Bradley; three sisters, Glenda Calhoun, Aiken, SC and Joyce Anderson and Cindie Tanner, both of Douglas; two sisters-in-law, Melba Clough and Marilyn Waters and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, from the First Baptist Church in Blackshear.
Interment will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
