Pecan Fest interrupted but not upset by rain

Pecan Fest interrupted but not upset by rain

Blackshear’s annual Pecan Fest was a mixed bag this year, mostly due to vagaries of the weather.

The day dawned overcast and drizzly and got worse from there before it got better. The Pierce County High School Sound of Silver band performed in a light rain that made the ground slippery for the flag team and color guard.

Shortly after that the sky opened up and sent festival goers scattering for available cover.

Prior to the sun coming back out, facepainter Lynne Marsh advised her occasional customers to stay underneath the tent until the paint had fully dried. The kids train ride sat quiet and some of the inflatable attractions were deflated. Other vendors were compelled to cover their wares with plastic sheets or drop down roll up flaps to keep the unwanted precipitation out of their tents.

About lunchtime the skies had cleared and crowds of people had returned with renewed vigor to a city park wet with rain but still ready for some fun.

This year’s Pecan Fest had a soggy start, but even an early downpour couldn’t dampen people’s spirits. Above left, one of the more acrobatic students at Dancers on Main shows her stuff. Above right, Julianna Farmer, 1, of Nahunta took a spin in the little UGA car. Her parents are Chase and Madison Farmer.
