A Blackshear man was fatally injured Saturday night after he was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle on U.S. Highway 84 near the Farr’s Community.
According to an preliminary report by the Georgia State Patrol, the bicyclist was attempting to cross the busy four-lane to Oak Ridge Circle at about 6:48 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a pick-up truck.
Coroner William Wilson confirmed to The Times that Alonzo Giron Guzman, 28, died in the emergency room at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, of injuries he sustained in the wreck.
The truck driver’s name was not released, but she reportedly was not physically injured in the wreck.
Guzman reportedly lived in the Oak Ridge community in Pierce County although his identification listed his address as Tenejapas, Chiapas State in southern Mexico. Friends report he had recently gotten married.

Law enforcement sources tell The Times Guzman may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, but toxicology reports were pending at press time.
The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
Troopers Justin Jones and Austin Edwards are in charge of the investigation.
Arrangements for Guzman are pending and will be with Hart Funeral Home of Blackshear.
