PCMS 6th-7th Bears split two-game slate

Pierce County Middle School’s 6th-7th grade Bears hoopsters split winning on the road and falling at home.

PCMS (1-2) clipped homestanding Bethune Middle School Monday, November 3 in Folkston winning 24-22 on a buzzerbeater in Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference action.

The Bears fell 36-23 Saturday, November 8 to visiting Frederica Academy in a non-conference matchup.

Pierce Middle is not fielding a 6th-7th grade girls team because of the lack of numbers.

Bears.......................24 Bethune Middle ......22 FOLKSTON — Jayden Moody’s three-point basket at the buzzer capped a fourth-quarter comeback for PCMS from a fourpoint deficit.

The Bears trailed 19-15 entering the final period and 22-21 when Moody drained his only basket.

“We played hard the entire game,” said head coach Stuart Stipe. “We still made a lot of mistakes which we need to work on, but found a way at the end. This was a complete team win, but I’m happy for Jayden to hit the game winner.”

PCMS claimed an 8-3 lead at the end of the first period. Behune outpointed the Bears 7-2 in the second stanza to tie the game at 10-apiece.

The home team used a 9-5 scoring advantage in the third period to open up a 19-15 lead.

Drew Stipe paced the Bears with six points. Dax Sheffield and Briggs Sweat contributed five points and four points respective. Ace Goodman netted two points.

Frederica Acad.......36 Bears .....................23 BEARVILLE — The visiting Knights outscored Pierce Middle 21-3 in the first and third periods en route to notching the road victory.

Frederica Academy recorded a first quarter shutout in jumping to an 8-0 lead. PCMS closed the deficit to two by intermission outscoring the visitors 11-5 to trail 13-11.

The Knights used a 13-3 run during the third period to open up a 27-14 lead. Each team scored nine points in the final stanza.

PCMS was paced by Hudson Zauner’s six points. De’Marcus Bradwell and Stipe followed with five points each.

Moody finished with three points with Razzi Cobb and Kayden Jenkins bagging two points apiece.
