RICHMOND HILL — Pierce County High School’s Sam Chesser and the Lady Bears 200-yard freestyle relay team clinched state berths here Saturday at the season-opening Richmond Hill Pumpkin Plunge swim meet.
Chesser posted a time of 23.28 seconds in the 50 free finishing fourth in the event. The 200 free relay team, comprised of Lyla Brooker, Jasmine Sergent, Jacey Ryals and Teagan Dixon, posted a state qualifying time of 1:52.74 placing fifth in the event earning the first-ever spot for girls’ relay.
PCHS’s seven-member squad was one of 13 participating. Pierce County placed seventh.
Chesser finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.10.
Dixon set a personal best in the 50 free with a time of 27.8. Three other Lady Bears also set personal-best marks in the 100 free.
Jacey Ryals set her new mark with a time of 1:01.72, Lyla Brooker posted a 1:04.78 and Khloe Hewatt was clocked at 1:29.2.
PCHS travels Saturday, November 15 to Baxley for its next meet.
PCMS swimmers set new marks DOUGLAS — Pierce County Middle School’s swim program finished sixth overall here Friday at South Georgia State College in a meet hosted by Coffee Middle.
Both the Lady Bears and Bears finished sixth in their respective divisions.
Jaxon Coates recorded PCMS’s best finishing wining the 50 freestyle event with a time of 28.13 seconds. He also competed in his first 500 free posting a time of 7:39.92.
Both of Pierce Middle’s 400 free relay teams finished fifth. The Lady Bears’ team (5:33.77) consisted of Lily Gray Wright, Emma Sergent, Ryleigh Taylor and Charli Paszko.
The Bears, consisting of Eli Thorne, Jeremiah Henderson, Dow Walker and Coates, finished with a time of 5:56.81.
Sergent (1:31.65) and Paszko (1:33.51) finished ninth and 10th their first 100 backstroke event.
Setting personal-best marks were Makenzie free (50.11), Jeremiah Henderson in the 100 free (1:27.5), Samaree Jernigan in the 100 free (1:35.36), Ian Martinez in the 50 free (39.8), Gwen Merck in the 100 free (1:34.8), Annzlee O'Berry in the 50 free (1:01.67) and AB Watson in the 50 free (55.55).
