WAYCROSS — Betty Jean Hinnant Worten, 82, of Waycross died Wednesday evening, October 22, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health after a brief illness.
Mrs. Worton was born in Waycross to the late James Waldo Hinnant and Allie Mae Albritton Hinnant, and made Waycross her home for the past several years. She was a member of the Ware County High School Class of 1961 and worked in the Clark County School District for 17 years as a special needs school bus driver where she retired. She was a Clark County Citizen Police Academy graduate in May of 1999.
Mrs. Worten loved spending time with her family, she enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, cheering on the University of Georgia Bulldogs, and was passionate about animals, especially her two cats. She enjoyed being outdoors, beautiful flowers and bird watching. She attended New Union Church in Alma.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Waldo Hinnant.
Mrs. Worten is survived by two children, James E. Riner, Jr. (Jimi), and Deborah Riner Davenport (Ricky); a sister, Barbara Hinnant Gray; three grandchildren, Natalie Davenport (Justin), Paula J. Waltz (James), and Melanie Riner; three great grandchildren, Taylor Grace Waldon, Charlee Waldon, and Bentley Yawn; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held October 25 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.
