PCMS swim team competes in Tifton

Special to The Times

TIFTON — Pierce County Middle School’s swim teams participated here in a meet hosted by Tift County Middle School.

In unfavorable weather conditions, the Bears finished fifth and the Lady Bears sixth in their respective divisions.

“I am super proud of the way our new swimmers showed up in the water,” said head coach Jennifer Harris. “We have to keep the intensity and effort and see where the season takes us.”

The Bears Jaxon Coates finished first in the 200yard freestyle posting 2:40.77 — a huge personal best. Coates also placed second in the 50 breaststroke (38.87) being edged out by just two one-hundredths of a second.

The 400 freestyle relay team (6:18.01) consisting of Jeremiah Henderson, Dow Walker, Eli Thorne and Coates placed third.

Walker dropped six seconds (1:39.82) in his 100 free while Thorne dropped 14 seconds (1:34.26).
