County releases lower millage rates

NAHUNTA — Brantley County commissioners approved a pair of resolutions setting the millage rates for unincorporated Brantley County and the incorporated area.

The unanimous approvals from Commissioners Brian Hendrix, Hal Herndon and Andy Riggins came during a called meeting Wednesday, October 29 inside the commission building. Commissioner Randy Davison was not in attendance.

A motion was read to set the proposed countywide gross millage in the unincorporated area at 18.5303 mills, less 3.5622 mills for the insurance premium tax rollback, less 3.2813 mills for the local options sales tax rollback for a net M & O millage for unincorporated Brantley County at 11.6868.

The motion passed unanimously. The millage was 12.49 last year.

A second motion to set the proposed millage in the incorporated area at 18.5303 mills, less 3.2813 mills for the local option sales tax rollback for a net M & O millage of 15.2490 (excludes insurance premium tax rollback with the city receives directly.

The motion passed unanimously.

Last year’s millage rate for incorporated was 16.3971.

A motion was read to set the proposed millage in each special tax district at 1.25 mills for the county-wide special fire districts of Hortense, Nahunta and Hoboken, along with Calvary and Waynesville.

The motion passed unanimously.

The City of Nahunta, the City of Hoboken and the Brantley County Board of Education have announced their millage rates.

The City of Nahunta was the only body to raise its millage rate moving from 11.494 in 2025 to 12.494 for 2026. The City will see a 39% increase in funding.

The City of Hoboken lowered its millage rate by .77 going from 5.083 to 5.06. The City will see an increase of 26.66% in funding.

The Board of Education also its millage rate by .172 falling from 15.30 to 15.128. The BOE will see a funding increase of 16.65%.
