Ware County’s in-person early voting total swelled to 836 through Saturday, October 25, the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration said Monday.
Election officials had a total of 512 ballots for the six-day period, up from 324 in-person in the first week. There were also 24 absentee ballots received during the last week.
Early voting for the November 4 General Election continues through Friday, October 31 at the board office, 408 Tebeau Street. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.
Voting Tuesday will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at locations around the county.
Between in-person ballots cast and absentee ballots received 867 votes were recorded during the first two weeks of the early session. Through Friday, October 24, 31 of the 76 absentee ballots mailed by the election board’s office were returned.
Three of the early period’s highest vote totals came last week, the report shows.
A total 98 people cast ballots in person on Thursday, October 23.
There were also 94 who voted in person the following day while 93 voted on Tuesday, October 22. High for the first week was the first day of voting October 14 when 88 people cast a ballot.
Voters in the city have four Waycross City Commission seats to decide while city and county voters also have two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission and a local Floating Local Option Sales Tax referendum to consider.
Candidates for the commission seats are Shawn Roberts and Willie Oliver in District 1, Ayana Moore, William Simmons and Barry Worley in District 2, Katrena Felder, King Goree and Shawn Sanders in District 3 and Tim Peacock, Linda Slaughter-Titus and William Tompkins in District 4.
The District 4 seat has been vacant since the death of Diane Hopkins in late January.
Roberts and Felder are the incumbents in their districts.
Sheinita Bennett, who currently holds the District 2 seat, did not file for a second term.
