Nelson attends conference

Special to the WJH Ware County Supervisor of Elections Carlos Nelson was among those speaking earlier this month at the Legislative Leadership Conference for the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.

The session in Brunswick drew nearly 400 county officials from around the state. Nelson spoke during a “hot topic” session on election policy along with Glynn County Elections Director Chris Channell, that was moderated by Kaylon Day, ACCG Governmental Affairs Associate.

The two election administrators shared their perspectives on preparing for potential legislative and procedural changes, and possible budgetary impacts facing counties in the coming election cycles.

“Every election worker — from poll clerks to supervisors — plays a vital role in protecting democracy,” Nelson said. “Conferences like this allow us to strengthen that commitment through shared experience, collaboration, and continued education. Our goal is to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring that every county is ready, resilient, and equipped to maintain voter confidence no matter what changes come.”

The “hot topics” forum is part of the ACCG’s basic training program for conference participants.
