NAHUNTA – Virgie Shirley Knox, 76 of Nahunta, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025 at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Knox’s mother was Joyce Lavon Stewart Miller. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Peter James Strickland; grandmother, Maude Stewart; special nephew, Ricky Lane; and beloved best friend, Jackie Knox.
Mrs. Knox was a cook for many different locations and a member of Lulaton Baptist Church. She loved fishing, gardening, and reading. She was a member of the Dart Champion and was a pool shark.
But most of all, she loved spending time with friends, family and her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Steve Knox of Nahunta; two daughters and a sonin- law, Gail Bauer (Kenny) of Hortense and Glenda Lewis of Nahunta; two grandchildren, Bryan Knox Bauer (Kayla) and Nissa Boggess “Skeet” (Jesse); five great grandchildren, Brantley Sparre, Cameron Wainright, Kaytee Bauer, Knox Bauer and Ceyla Mae Bauer; a greatgreat grandchild, Bristol Wainright; five step children, Jerry Jr., Cindy, Katrina, Donald and Sherry; two sisters and brotherin- law, Charlotte Thigpen (Gary) of Woodbine and Sheila Wainright (Mike Walker) of Nahunta; also several other relatives and a host of friends.
A special thank you to Hospice and Brittany Hayes, Emily Krause, Katie Harris and other Hospice area staff. also the family would like to extend a special thank you to Timothy Lane, Jonathan Raulerson and Karen Lee Moody.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., at 115 Lindsey Trail in Nahunta. Everyone is welcome to come.
