BCHS juniors enjoy career day

Brantley County High School recently hosted a day filled with career and college opportunities for students.

While 9th graders completed the YouScience aptitude assessment and 10th grade took the PSAT, hundreds of 11th-grade students enjoyed meeting college and career representatives from around the area at the Career Day 2025 Expo.

In addition to the on-site activities, 12th-grade students were able to job shadow in their choice of fields. Brantley County School System’s mission is “Educate to Graduate, Equip to Soar: College, Career, and Community,” and this type of planned event provides real-world connections that help make that goal possible for our young men and women.

Students spent the first segment of the morning exploring “Where will you be at 33?” Home, Auto, Family, Income, and Career – a presentation led by coach Arron Beck and Sabrina Hutcheson.

Students also enjoyed a video presentation comprised of former BCHS graduates (spanning from Georgia to California) who shared their stories of success since graduating from BCHS. Video clips featured career areas including Entrepreneur/ Professional Surfer, Healthcare-Pediatrician, Air Force Boom Operator, Naval Officer, Attorney, Assistant Chief of Police, Technology Executive, Electrician and Television Station General Manager.

The final segment of the morning activities involved student interaction as they visited the EXPO in the school gym.

The Career Day Expo 2025 event, planned by BCHS’s Work-Based Learning Coordinator Tara Tyler, included opportunities for students to learn more about the salary, expectations and job outlook in the fields of education, welding, cosmetology, engineering, electricians, healthcare, US Armed Services and many other community industries.

“I loved that students had the chance to personally connect with industry professionals during the morning’s Expo session,” said Mrs. Tyler.

Junior class students received a BINGO card with industry-specific questions asking each career or college representative as they made their way through each exhibit. This allowed each student to visit with experts in the field and provided conversation starters for students, as well as providing the adults with opportunities to share in-depth information and experiences about their own roles or pathways offered.

As an incentive this year, students who completed BINGO in three directions were entered into a drawing for two $50 Cash Prizes. Prize winners were Karri Perez-Hernandez and Ramsey Pittman.

Brantley County High School’s administrative team and Mrs. Tyler are already planning for next year’s event and look forward to hearing from students, employers and colleges on the many connections and insights made from the 2025 Career Day.
