First week of early voting draws 324 in person

A total of 324 citizens cast ballots during the first week of early voting for the General Election November 4.

Another 52 absentee ballots were mailed during the week, and seven of those had been returned, Ware County Supervisor of Elections Carlos Nelson said.

Early voting continues through Friday, October 31 at the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration office, 408 Tebeau Street. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

Voting Tuesday, November 4 will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at locations around the county.

October 14, the first day of the early period, drew the most in-person voters with 88. A total of 79 followed the next day and 75 on October 16.

There are four Waycross City Commission seats as well as two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission and a local Floating Local Option Sales Tax referendum on the ballot.

Candidates for the commission seats are Shawn Roberts and Willie Oliver in District 1, Ayana Moore, William Simmons and Barry Worley in District 2, Katrena Felder, King Goree and Shawn Sanders in District 3 and Tim Peacock, Linda Slaughter-Titus and William Tompkins in District 4.

The District 4 seat has been vacant since the death of Diane Hopkins in late January.

Roberts and Felder are the incumbents in their districts. Sheinita Bennett, who currently holds the District 2 seat, did not file for a second term.

Candidates from Districts 1-3 have been invited to participate in a forum at 6 p.m., Thursday, October 23 in Room 113 of the Ware County Administration Building, 305 Oak Street.

The Ware County Republican Party is staging the session for the nonpartisan candidates. It held a similar forum earlier for District 4 candidates.
