WPD offers safety tips for trick or treat

Staff Report

Members of the Waycross Police Department will have an increased presence in neighborhoods Friday evening, October 31 as the city holds “trick-or-treat” night.

Beginning at 5 p.m., officers will be patrolling neighborhoods to help ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween evening for everyone.

Police remind trick-ortreaters and those with them to stay in well-lit areas whenever possible and wear reflective clothing, reflective strips of tape on clothes or carry a flashlight.

Streets should be crossed at intersections rather than in the middle of blocks, and motorists should drive well below the speed limit with the presence of a greater number of pedestrians.

Those trick-or-treating in the neighborhoods around Memorial Stadium should use extra caution since activity will be increased with the Ware County-Wayne County football game which starts at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to neighborhood homes, trick-ortreaters can visit the municipal courtroom in the police department at 512 Oak Street that evening for goodies.
