Jeannie Theresa Carter Thomas

BICKLEY — Mrs. Jeannie Theresa Carter Thomas, 70, passed away Sunday morning, October 12, 2025, at her residence in the Bickley Community after an extended illness.

She was born on June 7, 1955, in Waycross to the late William Liston Carter, Sr., and Joan Wilson Carter. Jeannie was a 1973 graduate of Ware County High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from West Georgia University and later completed her Master’s degree at Valdosta State University. Mrs. Thomas dedicated 30 years of her life to education, retiring as a special education teacher from the Ware County School System.

Her teaching career included stints at Manor Elementary in 1978-1987, Ware County High School in 1987-1991, the Harrell Center in 1991-2001, and Waresboro Elementary in 2001-2009.

A faithful member of Bickley Church, Mrs. Thomas especially enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a compassionate soul who genuinely cared for others. She found joy in cooking, caring for her family, reading, fishing, and making treasured visits to her favorite place — Fernandina Beach. Fla. Every beach trip began at dawn, when she would rise early to walk the shore, collecting shark’s teeth and savoring a tomato sandwich.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Nicki Gill; her brother, Bruce Carter; and her sister, Angela Waldron.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, William Eugene “Gene” Thomas of Bickley; her son, William Clifton “Cliff” Thomas of Bickley; two grandchildren, Conner James Gill and Robert Tyler Gill; her brother, William Liston “Bo” Carter, Jr. (Pam) of Bickley; along with several nieces and nephews who will remember her with love.

A graveside service was held Friday, October 17 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bickley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, 31501.

Sympathy may be expressed by signing the tribute wall at www.musicfuneralhome. com.

Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
