County Commission highlights

The County Commission discussed/ voted on the following agenda items during the Tuesday, October 7 work session and Thursday, October 9 monthly meeting.

• ‘Retired Educators Day’ proclamation: Commissioners approved a proclamation for Sunday, November 2, 2025 to be recognized as Retired Educators Day.

• Hoboken VFD SCBA equipment: The board approved the request of the Hoboken Volunteer Fire Department to purchase 10 sets of SCBA equipment from 10-8 for $77,235.25.

Two other bids were presented from NAFECO for $88,786.60 and MES $124,924.80.

HBVD was requesting the purchase from 10-8 to be compatiable with other VFDs in the county. Payment will be from the HBVD Fire Account.

• Exterior painting of Commissioners Office: Commissioners accepted the low bid of Heritage Pro Coatings for $9,500 to paint the exterior of the office.

Rocky Dixon submitted a bid of $11,500 while Terry Willis Contractor’s bid was for $13,600.

Funding will be paid out of Capital Projects.

• Brush mower for Road Department: The commission approved the low bid of Ag Pro in Mershon for a 15-foot Rhino bush mower for a cost of $22,650.

Ag Pro also submitted a $23,650.01 bid for a 15-foot John Deere model. Dixon Tractor in Blackshear submitted a $23,950 bid for a 15-foot Bushhog mower.

The mower will be paid from the 2025 SPLOST (Special Local Option Sales Tax) funds.

• DFCS lease renewal: The board approved the lease renewal with DFCS for $10,710 a month and $128,520 per year.

• County manager update: Cason shared with commissioners a current list of county items ready for surplus. He also said Sheriff Len Davis would be coming.

The auction is scheduled for Saturday, November 8.

Cason said the annex building will be ready on schedule in mid-November.

• Personnel: Commissioners approved the move of Dylan Towne from the interim E911 Director to permanent with a starting pay of $48,877.09.
