CANEY BAY — One thing is for certain Friday night in Nashville — a losing streak will end.
Winless Brantley County (0-8 overall, 0-4 Region 1-A) faces off with Berrien (26, 0-4), losers of five straight after opening the season 2-1. Friday’s meeting is the 29th in a ser ies dating back t o 1970 and the Herons’ first official season of football which included a 14-13 victory. Berrien leads the matchup 22-6 including victories in six of the last seven battles.
The two teams have faced three common Region 1 foes with losses i n each. BCHS fell 31-0 to Jeff Davis while the Rebels fell 42-14. The Herons lost 50-0 to Worth County with the Rams handing Berrien a 54-16 setback. Brantley County lost 48-0 to Fitzgerald while the Rebels suffered a 42-6 loss.
Berrien’s two victories came in back-toback weeks against Class A DII opponents Lanier County (47-21) and Telfair County (39-36).
During the four-game non-region schedule, the Rebels averaged 33.8 points per game while allowing 32.8 points. Over four region games, Berrien is scoring 12 points per game and allowing 38.8 points.
The Rebel totaled 21 touchdowns over the first four games and seven in region play.
Brantley County enters averaging 2.3 points per game and in the midst of a school-record six-game scoreless stretch covering 27 quarters. The Herons are allowing 38 points per game.

Berrien runs a spread attack directed by junior signal-caller Cash Perkins, who has completed 59-of-
126 passes (47 percent) for
734 yards. Perkins has thrown for four touchdowns against seven interceptions.
He is the second-leading rusher with 308 yards on 70 attempts (4.4 average). Perkins has six touchdowns and twice surpassed 100 yards.
The ground game is powered by senior Gene Watson, who has accumulated 896 yards on 161 carries (5.6 average). He has scored 14 touchdowns and posted five 100-yard rushing nights.
Two receivers have combined for 67% of Perkins passes. Junior Jerrion Brown has 20 receptions for 217 yards while Cole Stone has grabbed 20 balls for 193 yards. Each has a touchdown.
BCHS will operate against a defensive unit that has allowed 36 points or better in five games including three straight. Worth County’s 54 points are a season high with Clinch County posting 48 in a wild 48-43 victory.
Senior Connor Bullard spearheads the defensive unit as its leading tackler (no up to date totals) and leads the team in interceptions. Stone is second on the team in tackles and has an interception.
Seniors Amari Camon, Luke Lanier, Tay Lays, Zayden Sealey and Champ Summer, along with junior Miguel Gu, sophomore Durrell Mathis and freshman Christian Rodriguez all have recorded doubledigit tackles.
