Steel and Metal Systems to host Business After Hours

Steel and Metal Systems (SAMS) and Roll-Up Door, Inc. (RDI) will host Business After Hours (BAH) Thursday, October 23.

The event will be from 5-7 p.m. at SAMS and RDI located at 505 Main Street, Blackshear.

Guests will have the opportunity to tour SAMS and RDI’s newly renovated offices, learn about the company and meet their host partner, Farmers and Builders and their new division, Swiftbuilt.

Early voting happening now through October 31

Early voting will continue through Friday, October 31 at the Board of Elections at 312 Nichols Street, Blackshear. Saturday voting will be held October 25.

Halloween to be observed Oct. 30 in the city park

Trick-or-Treat will take place Thursday, Oct. 30 in Blackshear City Park.

Activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. Community businesses, downtown merchants and local organizations are asked to set up a tent or a trunk in the park to distribute candy.

A costume contest is planned and there will also be contests for best truck, tent and/or table.

Prize categories include baby-three years old, 4-8 years old, 9-12 years old and best family/group, tent or table.

The annual downtown event is organized by Blackshear’s Better Hometown (BHT) program.

Annual Pecan Festival set to delight attendees Nov. 8

The Pecan Festival of Georgia is set for Saturday, Nov. 8.

The annual event, organized by the Exchange Club of Blackshear, will be held from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Blackshear City Park.

Admission is free but a wrist band will be available for sale to give unlimited access to some rides at the event.

Festival activities include the Georgia State Pecan Pie Contest, classic car show and live entertainment from local performers, arts and crafts vendors and more.

The fun also includes a kids zone with inflatables, bounce houses and more.
