Well and septic loan program now open to Pierce residents

Seven Rivers Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council announces the sign-up period for their Decentralized Water Systems Loan Program.

The water well or septic system loan program provides 1% interest loans up to 12 years to qualifying low-income homeowners, allowing them to repair or replace a non-functioning well system or failing septic systems.

To qualify for the loan program, the applicant should reside in the council’s project area of Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Tift, Ware, or Wayne County. They must own and reside in their home or mobile home and land (proof of ownership is required). If you are in county near one of these counties, we can still help you if your RC&D does not have this program.

Applicants must obtain a minimum of two bids from licensed and bonded water well contractors or septic system contractors, and must have the well inspected by their local health department.

Loans will not pay to fund a well or septic system for new home construction, for use of a well as a substitute for a community water system nor for home plumbing systems.

If funded, the homeowner will make loan repayments at 1% interest for up to 12 years, with a minimum $25.00 monthly payment required. There is no fee for early repayment of the loan.

Seven Rivers RC&D Council is a locally led, 501 (c) 3, non-profit that works in nineteen county areas to enhance the quality of life for those who live and work here.

The Council’s Decentralized Water System Loan program provides the means to ensure a safe, reliable source of drinking water and healthier septic systems to low-income area residents.

For more information or to request an application package, please contact Seven Rivers RC&D Council at (912) 367-1432 or 912-367-7679. Assistance in completing the application will be provided upon request.
